“THE PARENT’S CHIEF CARE IS, THAT THAT WHICH THEY SUPPLY SHALL BE WHOLESOME AND NOURISHING WHETHER IN THE WAY OF PICTURE BOOKS, LESSONS, PLAYMATES, BREAD AND MILK, OR MOTHER’S LOVE.”
–Charlotte Mason
Park Days
Our weekly gathering at the park gives the children the opportunity for unstructured playtime or pick-up sports and gives moms an opportunity for mid-week fellowship and grown-up conversation.
Nature Days
Our monthly nature days are planned to get us outdoors and into nature. Some outings are structured (hikes, tours, etc…) while others are intended for roaming and exploration. Both children and moms are encouraged to journal their nature day observations.
Mom Culture
Mom Culture evenings are 2-3 hours of quarterly fellowship with a purpose. Typically focused on a CM-inspired activity, we have done watercolor tutorials, various handicrafts, and picture study/painting with the intention of equipping ourselves to bring more of these activities into the daily lives of our children.
Fine Arts Fridays
Fine Arts Friday are VHF’s signature event. Participation in FAF requires a separate registration and an additional fee. Space is limited and tends to fill quickly during each re-enrollment period. Registration begins May 1 for new families. Please click here for more details and to register.
High School Events
Four times a year our we plan special events just for our high schoolers; a back to school social, an outreach/ministry event, a formal event, and an end-of-year “just for fun” event. We think it’s important for our high schoolers to have age-appropriate wholesome fellowship too!
Family Socials
Twice a year we invite whole families to come together for a fun time of fellowship. These events give dads the opportunity to join in the homeschooling fun that they are so often absent from. We always start off the school year with a family ice cream social and end the year with a themed dance complete with fun costumes, great food, and lots of memories!
Handicraft Fair
Our annual Handicraft Fair is a highlight of the year for VHF students. Taking place in early December, kids and moms alike are encouraged to bring out their homemade crafts and useful objects to display, sell, or trade.
Field Trips
We recognize that there are unending field trip options for homeschoolers, however, it is not our goal to schedule field trips for the sake of fun or even field trips for the sake of education. For VHF purposes, we look for opportunities to enhance the life experience of our children and ourselves and will therefore consider field trips through a CM lens. Outings in nature; visits to art museums, live symphonies, and plays; handicraft lessons, and wholesome family gatherings are the predominant offerings within our fellowship group
Book Club
Each summer, moms have an opportunity to meet regularly to discuss a book which should encourage and/or equip us for the upcoming school year.
Fellowship Friday Co-Op
Join our Fellowship Friday Co-Op (additional fee required) for even more opportunity for fellowship and structured learning activites. Families with children ages K-Middle School are welcome to participate.
